Exercising in Style

April

The Woolworth Tower Residences are full of historical detail and modern features, and the building’s fitness amenities represent the best of both worlds. From a once-secret pool to sky-high Peloton bikes, residents of these luxury Tribeca condominiums will never want for opulent exercise opportunities. Keep reading for a rundown of the best on-site and nearby fitness options for these landmark homes.

A Lost Pool, Found

Deep in the Woolworth Tower’s basement, there was long rumored to be a marble-clad lap pool originally designed for the city’s Gilded Age elite. While the pool occasionally made print over the last century when it was part of the Jack LaLanne and Bally fitness club franchises, it was essentially abandoned before the 1990s and existed more as an urban legend than a place to dip one’s toes. Now, thanks to designer Thierry Despont, the pool has been restored beyond its original glory, completely refinished, and accompanied by a new suite of spa elements, including a hot tub, changing rooms, and a sauna. The new pool is closer to the lavish Turkish Bath-inspired vision that F.W. Woolworth had when commissioning the tower over a hundred years ago.

Sky-High Cycling

The popularity of spin chains like SoulCycle and the ubiquity of Citi Bike kiosks has proven that New Yorkers love cycling, despite the cityscape being less than conducive to this form of exercise. Fortunately, The Woolworth Tower Residences offer dwellers a fitness center complete with high-end Peloton exercise bikes as well as other state-of-the-art cardio equipment and free weights, all with spectacular East- and North-facing views from the 30th floor. Residents will love building their core while viewing the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings or taking a few minutes to towel off while gazing over the length of Brooklyn.

Leaving Home

And if you’re looking for a change of pace (no pun intended) from the fitness offerings at The Woolworth Tower Residences, a bevy of options are available within walking distance. Iconic chain SoulCycle’s Tribeca outpost, which is less than ten minutes away, offers classes hosted by a cast of fresh-faced instructors ready to keep clients fit. Those who prefer a freer kind of fitness will love Xtend Barre just two blocks away, where clients engage in a full-body workout that combines dance and toning exercises. And just a few blocks south is CrossFit 212, where practitioners of the trendy combined-discipline method will find all the equipment they need to meet their fitness goals.
