A Stroll Along Pier 17

May

Piers are not a luxury afforded exclusively to those living by the sea. In fact, just blocks away from The Woolworth Tower Residences in Tribeca, Pier 17 is proving itself to be one of the most happening waterside destinations in the entire country. Time Out has already dubbed it “NYC’s hottest waterfront space,” and the spot promises plenty of treats in the coming months. Let’s take a stroll along Pier 17, soaking up all it has to offer, from culture to cuisine.

Dine and Drink

The Heineken Riverdeck is the perfect place to start any evening on Pier 17. Recline with an icy lager and feast on vistas of the Statue of Liberty, all three of the East River bridges, and the majestic spire of the Empire State Building. Hip DJs soundtrack the experience, adding to the al fresco party atmosphere. For some refined drinking, call in at R17 and indulge in a San Luiz Swizzle, made with mezcal, pineapple juice, and bitters. They know how to make their drinks at R17. When the mood strikes for food, Pier 17 accommodates, with seafood masterpieces courtesy of Jean-Georges Vongerichten at The Fulton, and, coming soon, Italian chophouse classics from Andrew Carmellini, a skilled chef who has made his mark across Manhattan and beyond.

A Crowning Achievement

Five stories high, and set 300 feet out into the East River, the Pier’s Rooftop is truly stunning. In the colder months, it hosts an ice rink and other wintry wonders — peppered with “warming stations” where you can cozy up with a mulled wine and watch the lights of boats glimmering out on the East River. In the summer, the Rooftop explodes with concerts, movie screenings, fashion shows, and wellness events. And, of course, the views of downtown Manhattan from the venue are nothing short of spectacular. Nearby Seaport Square buzzes with events throughout the year; or otherwise invites you simply to sit and admire the historic ships moored up in the waters.

Upcoming Events at Pier 17

Pier 17’s most bustling time of year is upon us, with the events calendar heaving throughout spring and summer. Among the highlights are concerts from indietronica band Passion Pit (May 19 and 21); a date on Blackbear’s “dead 2 the world tour” (June 6); electrobeats from Slushii (June 22); and a joint show from indie legends James and The Psychedelic Furs (July 12). On top of all that, June 30 witnesses a spectacular Color Block Party — heralded with a huge new balloon sculpture by renowned artist Geronimo.

For residents of nearby Woolworth Tower Residences, this promises to be one vibrant season.
